Alternatives to metro tiles

Metro tiles are a staple tiling choice for many homes across the country. From kitchens to bathrooms, metro tiles adorn walls, splashback areas and even floors. But if you’re looking for something a little bit different, it can be a challenge to find something to suit your style. Well, here at Tiles 2 Go, we are Preston’s leading tiling experts. As a result, we have produced this guide to alternatives to metro tiles.

Glazed tiles

Metro tiles are unassuming and quiet tiles. And if you are looking for tiles to match this character trait, glazed tiles could be the perfect option. Usually square, unlike the rectangular metro tiles, glazed tiles offer a softer aesthetic because of the added texture and reflections. As a result, they can be the perfect alternative to metro tiles.

In addition, you can consider the tiling layout you use to apply these glazed tiles. Brick-bond, diagonal tiling or grid layout can all be effective for different purposes.

Mosaic tiles

When you think of mosaic tiling, you probably think of elaborate Greek and Roman creations, or even Victorian tiling. However, mosaic tiles can be the perfect choice for contemporary homes, as well as traditional homes. And they can be a fantastic alternative to metro tiles, when used in a splashback area or a feature wall. In fact, tiny hexagonal shaped tiles can be the perfect mosaic in a  contemporary kitchen or bathroom.

Geometric tiles

For something altogether more interesting and character filled, why not try geometirc tiles? From hexagons to triangles, you can tile your walls, floors and splashback zones with unusual tile shapes to really make your tiling stand out. And you can even arrange unusual shaped tiles, to make patterns representing larger hexagons. This is a lot more visually interesting than standard metro tiles.
