Tiling is something that can make a huge difference to the look and feel of your room. Choosing the right tiles, and the right grout is important to create the effect you were hoping for. Here at Tiles 2 Go, we are Preston’s leading tiling experts. As a result, we have produced this guide to grouting and tiling.

Grouting and tiling considerations

From colour to size, there are a range of considerations when it comes to using the right grout for your tiles. Patterned tiles, textured tiles, and the shape of your tiles can all influence the grouting choices you will make. For example, a contrasting grout colour might work extremely well with a metro tile, but it would completely ruin the effect of a mosaic you were creating. As a result, the grouting can be much more important than you might initially believe.

Grout size

Choosing the right size grout lines can be a challenge. However, here are some tips to help you get it right, in any circumstances.

  • larger grout lines can cover up any imperfections in your tiles, hide any irregularities, and make your tiling look more professional, even if you have made mistakes. This includes uneven edges from cutting your tiles to size.
  • Larger tiles work well with larger grout lines, while smaller tiles suit smaller grout lines.
  • Tiling on the floor of the bathroom or kitchen can benefit from larger grout lines because this will increase traction and reduce the risk of slips, trips and falls.
  • Tiling on a sloping surface is more effective with a larger grout size. This is because the gaps between the tiles will change depending on the pitch. The wider grout will cover up any irregularities and make everything appear even.
