Perfect for both floors and walls, tiles can also be incredibly practical. One of the trends we have seen emerging is the surge in large format tiles. But what are they, and are they effective? Well, this is our guide to the advantages of large format tiles.

What are large format tiles?

Large format tiles are just like any other tile, but bigger. In fact, they are simply any tile with one side over 40cm long. As you can imagine, that’s quite a bit larger than your standard metro tile!

Perfect for floor and wall tiling, large format tiles have all the same benefits of regular tiles in that they can be:

  • waterproof or non porous
  • easy to maintain
  • hardwearing and durable

They are also available in a variety of colours and shapes, so that your can really make your tiling feature your own.

What are the advantages of large format tiles?

Large format tiles have a range of advantages. These include:

  • less grout
  • increase the sense of space in a medium to large room
  • suitable for a range of tiling patterns

Less grout

With less grout lines needed, your tiled wall or floor will have less interruptions. This can make maintaining the room much easier, as tiles are always easier to clean than the grout itself. It also means less time is needed for re-grouting the tiles, a job nobody likes to do!

Sense of space

With less grout lines to interrupt, the large format tiles can seem to stretch over the space endlessly. Which makes a medium sized room feel a lot larger. However, in a small room, this will have the opposite effect, as you will have very few tiles to cover the space.
