Natural light in any space can brighten up the room and create a sense of space. The right tiles can help to emphasise this natural light and redirect and reflect it around the room. What are the options when tiling to emphasise natural light?

There are a range of different factors to consider when adding tiles to any room. But when these tiles also need to play a role, reflecting light around the room, there are a number of options to consider. These include:

  •  Gloss finish tiles
  • Pale coloured floor tiles

Gloss finish tiles

Tiles with a gloss finish reflect much more light when compared with matt finish tiles. This is because light bounces of the glossy surface and then back into the room, reflecting further off any other glossy surfaces. These can be more practical for wall tiling, as gloss finished floor tiling can be slippy and more dangerous.

Pale coloured floor tiles

The floors are often the largest amount of open, visible space in a room. As a result, if you choose pale coloured floor tiles, like light greys, beiges or cremes, you can brighten up the whole space. The pale colour will reflect the light around the entire space. As a result, pale floors are highly effective in small rooms, with only a small amount of natural light.
