Choosing the right grout

Professional Grouting Top Tips
When it comes to your next tiling project, the grouting is probably the last thing you will consider. Tile colour, size, shape and texture will all take precedence. But grouting is actually incredibly important. Choosing the right grout can transform your tiling feature and really make it stand out. Here at Tiles 2 Go, we are Preston’s leading tiling experts. As a result, we have produced this guide to choosing the right grout.

Considerations for grouting and tiling

There are a number of considerations that you should be aware of when choosing the right grout. These include both the grout colour and the grout size. Both of these can have a dramatic influence on the overall effect of the tiling itself.
The type of tiles you choose to use should have the biggest influence on the grout you opt for. This is because the tile colour, texture and size should be the defining factors when deciding on grout colour and size. While a contrasting grout colour might be amazing when paired with a plain metro tile, it would not suit a tiling mosaic at all.

Grout size

One of the most important aspects of choosing the right grout, is choosing a grout size. Should you go for a thick bold grout line that allows the shape of the tile to stand out, or should you use a thin grout line that is almost hidden? Well, for different tiles, different sizes of grout line will be more appropriate. Here are some tips:
  • using large grout lines can cover up any irregularities in your tiling and make the finish look more professional.
  • larger tiles are more suited to larger grout lines than small tiles
  • floor tiling in the bathroom or the kitchen can look great with larger grout lines and it will also increase friction, perhaps preventing slips, trips and falls.
