Textured tiles can be a great addition to any room, in any home. From the most contemporary of kitchens, to the most traditional bathrooms, textured tiles can be the perfect choice. But you can have too much of a good thing. In fact, a room with too many textured tiles can be a bit overwhelming, and the tiles will lose their effect and charm. So mixing and matching your textured tiles, with your patterned tiles, can be a great idea. So what type of combinations work? And how can these two types of tile work together? Well here at Tiles 2 Go, as Preston’s leading tiling professionals, we have produced this guide to combining plain tiles with textured tiles.

Combining plain tiles with textured tiles

So, how can textured tiles be combined effectively with plain tiles? Well, there are a number of options available, including:

  • Feature area- restrict your textured tiles to just one position, so that you can use these to create a visual feature. This can work well when the textured tiles are used as a kitchen or bathroom splashback, a feature wall, or as border tiles. The texture creates a contrast with the smooth finish of the other tiles, and this draws the eye to the textured feature area, and can help add visual interest and style to your space.
  • Colours- when choosing your plain and patterned tiles, you should consider your colour options. The texture of the tile itself will create contrast, so it might not be necessary to choose contrasting tile colours to add that focal point. You could instead choose tiles that are a different shade of the same colour, or tiles with colours that complement each other.
